What will Earth’s Mightiest Heroes do when the Xenomorphs crash on Earth after years of trying to keep them away?
That answer will be revealed in Marvel’s upcoming comic series Aliens vs. Avengers, with the first of four issues set to hit shelves on July 24. It will debut before the release of Aliens: Romulus on August 16.
Leading the charge is Jonathan Hickman, the author behind Marvel classics like Ultimate Spiderman, Secret Wars, and Fantastic Four. Hickman will team with artist Esad Ribic, known for his work on Loki, Thor: God of Thunder, and Secret Wars. The two will tell a story of a world where humanity’s survival hangs in the balance.
With Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox’s assets, Marvel has cracked open the door to a universe of possibilities, joining forces with iconic franchises like Aliens. Hickman, a self-proclaimed die-hard fan of the Aliens series, said this project is a dream come true, merging two beloved universes into one adventure.
“I love the Aliens universe and the mythology and obviously just how atmospherically and well-designed everything is has always gotten my creative juices flowing,” Hickman said in recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Hickman and Ribic will have the task of showcasing the threat the Xenomorphs pose. With each Aliens film, the goal remains the same: keep the Xenomorphs away from Earth as failure would spell doom for humanity.
Set in a future several years from now, the Marvel heroes face a race against time, armed with advanced technology and knowledge. But will it be enough to fend off this extraterrestrial menace?
“Probably one of the coolest things about the project is how we’ve found really fun ways to ‘Avengerize’ Aliens and ‘alien-up’ Avengers,” Hickman said during his Entertainment Weekly interview. ” I think fans will be surprised at how elegantly some of those things fit together. It really turned out to be a chocolate-and-peanut-butter situation.”
Aliens vs. Avengers will be available at any local comic book store.
