It’s Farming Fest time on Steam!
Between now and May 6, fans of the farming sim genre can check out games, demos, and see what’s new and upcoming in the genre. While there are dozens of games to choose from, I wanted to make sure that you took at look at these five.
I went through the list and looked for games that were on a discount to make sure I found you great deals. Whether your are a veteran to the genre or diving in for the first time, make sure you check out these farming sims.
1. Stardew Valley
Normal Price: $14.99
On Sale: $9.89
There are few fans of the faming sim genre that will not vote Stardew Valley as the King of the genre. And with the recent 1.6 update from ConcernedApe, there is still more for fans to explore.
While it’s not overly expensive to begin with, if you haven’t taken the plunge into the Valley quite yet, this is an opportunity to get it for under ten dollars.
I’ve logged hours upon hours in this game, both solo and in co-op. There’s so much to explore from the mines, to areas you unlock, to the detailed and heartfelt stories of the townspeople you interact with on a daily basis.
When I saw this was on sale during the event, I knew I had to start my list off with this.
2. Roots of Pacha
Normal Price: $24.99
Sale Price: $16.74
I love this game and it’s newer to the genre. Along with friends, I discovered this during the Kickstarter era and will often sing its praises when I get the chance.
Set in a pre-historic era, Roots of Pacha introduces the idea of clan living instead of living in a traditional town. You can explore the area around your village, unlock additional areas and resources, and help to discover new items.
It’s a different setup to the traditional farming sim and that’s one of the biggest reasons I love it.
3. Pioneers of Pagonia
Regular Price: 29.99
Sale Price: $25.49
This is a city-builder. I wanted to be upfront and mention that. This is one I’m still working through, I’ve started a few times and been trying different combinations to find out how I want to lay out my towns.
One thing I love about this game is that you can fully customize it to how you want to play? Just want to build? You can play in a world without enemies? Want a challenge? Set it to the level that works best for you.
I got to try this game at PAX East and I had a blast playing. I’ve also played a bit at home as well.
This is in early access and they have their update calendar mostly mapped out through the end of the year.
4. The Wandering Village
Regular Price: $24.99
Sales Price: $18.74
Yet again, another city builder. A friend introduced me to this one and I snagged it on a sale some months back.
In this, you are helping a group of refugees who have fled their home due to unlivable conditions. They find a creature who will allow them to live on its back while it continues to wander.
In this game, you explore while you grow your civilization. Balance between your village and your new friend is vital as you explore this world that is filled with poisonous plants.
5. Echoes of the Plum Grove
Regular Price: $19.99
Sale Price: $17.99
This one has my attention and it’s only one I briefly got a chance to try out during Next Fest earlier this year. It’s a historical style farming sim that has some survival elements in it.
You crash land in a town and take over a farm. Throughout your adventure, you can meet townspeople and create relationships that can last generations. With the demo, I wasn’t able to explore how the generational aspects work and it’s something I’m looking forward to.
Echoes of the Plum Grove launched at the beginning of Farming Fest so this sales price is not only for the event, it’s the introductory price as well.
These are just five of the games that are on sale and are being highlighted. I wanted to focus on games that I have experience playing. Farming Sims are some of my favorite games and lately I’ve been really enjoying city builders as well. Hopefully some of these games will help you fall in love with this genre as well.
