Silksong was first announced by Team Cherry back on February 14, 2019. Fans of the indie hit Hollow Knight have been starving for details for these five long years, and it’s apparent in the chat of every indie showcase or similar event. Will Team Cherry put them out of their misery by dropping Silksong in 2024? Is this finally the year of Silksong?
After the initial announcement and a handful of updates, Team Cherry went silent for a while. Then, a second trailer in 2022 during an Xbox Showcase as well as a non-official release date of June 2023. Of course, this never came to fruition. Understandably, this can be a hard pill to swallow as a Hollow Knight fan.
It’s also difficult to ignore the chat during livestreams of Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase and the latest ID@Xbox Digital Showcase where Silksong dominated the conversation, for better or worse.
Regardless of fan rage, we have zero confirmation of Silksong’s release, only that Team Cherry was working on it.
In my personal opinion, Silksong in 2024 is still possible. Even though there was no mention by Nintendo or Xbox (and it really should be by Xbox) thus far, we still have Summer Games Fest, which would be a fitting platform for such anticipation. If not announced then, I’m put my money on a 2025 release. But, who knows! I just only hope Silksong fans temper their expectations like we Zelda fans did while waiting for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which also was announced in 2019.
