Boss Rush Banter: Wuthering Waves Exceeded Expectations

3–4 minutes

Wuthering Waves released May 22 and has quickly risen in popularity.

With over 30 million pre-registrations, Wuthering Waves had plenty of hype surrounding the game. The game has not only reached these expectations, but exceeded them.

There were a few issues when the game first released, but Kuro Games has been on top of fixing each issue as they’ve been reported. Just in the first few days since release, there have been mini patch updates to fix these issues. Personally, I didn’t and continue to not have any issues with the game running on my phone. As compensation for these issues, Kuro Games has provided a standard five-star selector and in game pulls for both the limited and standard banners. This already has proven that Kuro Games cares to make Wuthering Waves an amazing game for the players and they listen to the feedback they receive.

Story-wise, the game has well exceeded expectations. The story is intricate, with each piece having a part to play. Things only briefly mentioned ended up being more important, with greater depth, than expected. While playing the story, I found myself getting more and more hooked with each part. The mystery that players solve within the story kept adding more layers, each answer providing more questions. While there has been some handholding when it comes to solving puzzles within the quests, it’s been an overall positive experience. Once I finished the main story, I found myself wanting more already.

The combat and exploration experience is one of the best things to come out of this game. There are multiple different mechanics for combat, allowing for a unique experience. Each enemy also has different combat mechanics, different weaknesses, and different fighting styles that makes for refreshing combat. Exploration is easy and fun. Despite having a stamina bar, players can continuously run without consuming stamina. Stamina is only used for the initial sprint, or for combat and climbing. This makes it so the fast travel mechanic feels less necessary, especially with the ability to wall run. It’s quick and easy to get places, but also incredibly fun. Obstacles in the path are also less irritating then some other games, as the characters will lunge over them smoothly.

Not to mention, the scenery in the game is just gorgeous. Throughout playing, there were multiple times where I would find myself stopping just to admire the beautiful scenery. The featured image and the image above were screenshots taken while I was playing. These are just a few examples of how beautiful the game is.

When starting the game, I had already set my expectations pretty high. This was just based upon what I’d seen from the closed betas. But, since playing, I’ve found myself enjoying the game much more than I expected. Wuthering Waves has truly exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I’m looking forward to the continuation of the story in the next updates and am excited to see what Kuro Games has in store in the future.

Will you play Wuthering Waves? Or are you already playing? Let us know in the comments below or join the Boss Rush Discord to continue the conversation.
