RECAP: Nintendo Museum Direct Includes Grand Opening Date, Key Attractions

In a brief video, Shigeru Miyamoto shared a glimpse of the future Nintendo Museum located in Kyoto, Japan and announced the grand opening date of October 2nd, 2024. If you missed the Direct, don’t worry, I have all the details summarized for you below.

  • Nintendo Museum Grand Opening: 10/02/2024
  • Location: 56 Kaguraden, Ogura-cho, Uji-shi, Kyoto
  • Entry Fee: Adults- 3,300 Yen (approx. $22.50 USD); Youth 12 to 17- 2,200 Yen (approx. $15 USD), Children 6-11- 1,100 Yen (approx. $7.50 USD), Age 5 and under are free.
  • Exhibits: historical display, unique experiences, cafe, and gift shop

Nintendo Museum Direct Summary:

Miyamoto walked us through two different floors, each with its own attraction to explore and enjoy:

First Floor: Unique Play Experience

There will be eight interactive activities for visitors to the Nintendo Museum. Miyamoto showed off three: Ultra Machine SP, Zapper and Scope SP, and an area where you can play with older consoles with…massive controllers to encourage group play.

When purchasing Nintendo Museum tickets, you get ten virtual coins to spend on these activities (the ten coins alone will not cover all eight experiences).

Here is the list of all eight unique play experiences and a brief description:

  • Shigureden SP: Up to 20 people can use their smart device to play this classic card game on an interactive floor. The goal is to connect parts of Tanka poems.
  • Ultra Hand SP: Unfortunately, we can’t all be Link from Tears of the Kingdom, but you can use an extendable arm to grab an assembly of balls and drop them into pipes to compete for a high score!
  • Love Tester SP: Two people can hold hands and have their love measured in this cute interactive station.
  • Game and Watch SP: Play Ball and Manhole from the OG Game and Watch on a projected screen. Your shadow will be vital to gameplay!
  • Nintendo Classics: NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64 games up to a 2-player experience will be available =
  • Big Controller: Play games form classic consoles but with an oversized controller meant to be used by two players.

  • Ultra Machine SP: Several rooms are available to re-live a 1968 Nintendo classic. It’s essentially and indoor pitching machine that uses table-tennis balls. Various items in the room will react if you hit them!

  • Zapper and Scope SP: Chose from two laser guns and shoot the Koopas without hitting Mario and friends.

Second Floor: Over 100 Years of History

The second floor consists of displays of all the toys, devices, and games that Nintendo has ever made–even before they entered the video game industry.

Other Exhibits, Offerings:

In addition to the traditional museum and unique play experiences, the Nintendo Museum also offers a craft room where you can make your own Hanafuda cards and a Play Room where you can play Hanafuda.

  • Craft Room: Making Hanafuda cards will cost 2,000 yen and is approximately a one hour experience.

  • Play Room: This is a two player experience that lasts about 30 minutes and will cost you 500 yen per person.

When you get hungry after all the playing, you can try their cafe where you can craft your own burger with over 270,000 combination options.

And of course there is a merch shop, unique to the Nintendo Museum.

Widespread Bungie Layoffs & The Impending Xbox Bloodbath - Xbox Casuals: An Xbox Podcast

The team at Bungie, the studios at Xbox, and the video game industry continue to face one of its biggest turning points ever.This week, ⁠⁠⁠Corey Dirrig⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ and ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠Josh Finney⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ break down the major changes affecting both Bungie and the ongoing changes at Xbox. After Destiny 2 received its final planned service updates, Bungie announced nearly 300 layoffs, leaving Marathon as the studio’s primary focus under Sony. At the same time, Microsoft is undergoing major restructuring under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Reports suggest several well-known Xbox studios, including Ninja Theory and Double Fine, could face closure while Microsoft also introduces a $150 price increase for Xbox consoles.
