Red Dead Redemption was, almost legendarily, locked to its original consoles. For over a decade, there was no port; in 2023, a bare-bones but largely problem-free Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 port was released with little to no fanfare. Red Dead Redemption, and its expansion Undead Nightmare, will be released on Steam for PC on October 29, 2024.
The port is developed by Double Eleven, a team specializing in ports, who prepared the previous Red Dead Redemption ports.
This version of the game features all single player material, including bonuses originally included in the Game of the Year edition. No multiplayer modes have been ported to PC.
The PC version of Red Dead Redemption runs at a native 4K resolution up to 144hz, and offers support for Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9) monitors. HDR10 is supported. The game is not locked to controllers, offering “full” mouse and keyboard support. Draw distance and shadow quality can be adjusted.
NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling, as well as NVIDIA DLSS frame generation, are available. It is unclear why this would be necessary or desirable for a game which originally released in 2010. If the game runs moderately well, most PCs from the last few years should be able to run it at higher qualities.
