A new patent was filed recently by inventors Yoko Okamura, Keijiro Inoue, and Ai Yamamoto of Nintendo CO. LTD. Japan that reveals some new and interesting concepts. Mainly navigating a virtual space that utilizes a camera to process objects above rendered ground. Clearly this is a patent that has a virtual space in mind.

They use a sphere to show the example which later in the document shows a tennis court. The source renders the sphere and based on a height calculated from the ground will generate a contour of the sphere giving it a calculated purpose and trajectory.
Figure 1 shows a main hub, assuming a console, that has a separate display and controller that based on what is seen could be a different controller but could be a singular joycon controller. Further figures show trees and objects in the background and have various examples of how the sphere is calculated and interacts with space. A flow chart explains the technical operation of the interaction. Much more discussion about the apparatus and how it works is slathered through pages of jargon and endless terms.

As always, we know that Patents don’t always end up coming to fruition or fully transpire, but it is usually a good indicator on where future technology could be headed. What is interesting in this case is that we see tennis as the game of choice and if we remember back in the Nintendo Wii days, they included Wii Sports with the console. Could this be a future indicator that we might see the inclusion of a new software title packaged within a future hardware product? We shall wait and see.
