We see the return of a beloved baddie in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Volvagia, the fire dragon, is the boss within the Eldin Temple, and we have tips and tricks to take it down.
Note: Locations of Echoes mentioned are at the bottom of the walkthrough.
Volvagia’s Attacks
Volvagia is pretty straightforward, lacking distinct phases. His primary arsenal are: shooting a large, green orb at you, shooting fireballs, and blasting a pillar of fire that heats up an entire platform.

The key here is to remain mobile. Hop from platform to platform as needed. I’ve managed to do so without the help of Echoes; however, you can utilize some to help traversing easier. One example is to call on a Ghirro.

In between attacks, Volvagia will vanish underground then burst out, flying around the arena.

Methods to Dealing Damage
One key move (that even I didn’t use to my advantage until late in the battle) is to use Bind and pull the green orb around its neck. This will stun Volvagia, and there you can transform into Swordfighter form and slash away. If you prefer, you can summon an Echo to fight alongside you. Examples include: Darknut, Lizalfos, Ball-and-Chain Trooper, or Wolfos.

If you want to deal damage outside that sequence, you can summon ranged Echoes and shoot Volvagia with the Arrows of Might. Example Echos that are helpful are: Wizzrobe, Peahat, Spear Moblin, Keese.

Overall, it’s important to always be on the move or know what platform to move next. Use ranged Echoes to assist until you can Bind and pull the green orb on Volvagia’s neck to stun him for melee damage. Note that while there are a few pots in the corner, I notice there were less opportunities to replenish hearts and energy. Make sure you bring lots of smoothies!
Mentioned Echoes are their locations:
- Ghirro: Many other guides state they can be found in the Stilled Hebra region; however, I can into them during my trek in the Eldin region leading up toward the temple.
- Darknut: Level 2 can be found in Hyrule Castle, so you will likely have this one by now.
- Lizalfos: Level 2 can be found in the Eldin area–a great way to get a fast, higher-level enemy easily.
- Ball-and-Chain Trooper: Basement of Hyrule Castle. You should have access to this Echo by now.
- Wolfos: Found all over Hyrule field.
- Mothula: Gerudo Sanctum. Level 2 can be found in the Stilled Faron Wetlands if you happen to have gone there first.
- Wizzrobe: The different elemental Wizzrobes can be found in the three main areas: Eldin (fire), Faron (electricity), and Ice (Hebra).
- Peahat: A cave in Suthorn Forest.
- Spear Moblin: Suthorn Forest. Level 2 can be found in the west area of the Zora River
- Elemental Keese: Like the Wizzrobe, their elemental counterparts are found in the three main areas: Eldin (fire), Faron (electricity), and Ice (Hebra).
