Unfortunately for Jujuebee, she proclaims her steed a pony, leaving the perfect opportunity for Brennan to roll and proclaim the tiny beast isn’t doing so hot. Though Brennan undoubtedly pulled punches in the first season, he’s graciously opening trap doors and pulling rugs with vigor this go around. Our questing queens likely won’t see the tongue-wagging evil which appeared on his DM appearances on Critical Role or the darker D20 seasons, but they’ve upped their game, and Brennan clearly ready to match their growth.
Jujubee recalls Troyánn’s spell from last season which Monét had forgotten she had until after an unfortunate confrontation, allowing the party to cross the acid and increase the distance between them and the group Twyla notices following them from the forests. The group walks upon a river of acid as if it were a road, cutting straight into the heart of the Venomlands.

When the group reaches a cavern, Jujubee is immediately outvoted as the rest of the queens elect to follow the river underground despite no idea what lies ahead.
Despite her reluctance, Jujubee leads the way when disaster strikes, cutting down strange bat-head monsters. She does forget bats don’t have feathers when Twyla takes out the first enemy, but she dove so hard into that scene description that we’ll give it to her.
A shriek from the beasts leave Princess and Twyla stunned, nearly sending Princess into the acidic. Troyánn jumps in. She aids her comrades, going full-Matrix running along a wall. While she manages to kill one, Troyánn merely injuries the second which has taken aim at Twyla, leaving the fae who was previously in flight to fall. However, Gertrude intercedes, and our queens manage to kill the monsters without being infected by their bizarre curse.

When they exit the cavern and find themselves in Hagslick, a caravan of wagons crowds the place. Princess recognizes they bear the sigil of the Lord of Darktide. Deciding to head into town, the queens meet the Bone Butcher.

After buying a fortifying bone broth, Gertrude convinces the Bone Butcher to reduce her price dramatically through effective charm. The Bone Butcher further decreases the price, offering them for a kiss on the cheek which Gertrude happily offers. When she does so, the Bone Butcher has a vision, recognizing Gertrude’s curse and warning her that the unknown they come for her.
This sends the group quickly out, leaving the Venomlands and Hagslick behind. Now in the Far North, the questing queens arrive in Winter’s Eve.

When they enter a rough tavern, Princess gets into an eating contest with a local werebear. Gertrude attempts to read Rolgar’s mind while Troyánn sneakily makes Rolgar’s meat smell strange.

Princess wins, but in the midst of their celebration, Gertrude overhears the thoughts of someone recognizing Troyánn, wondering what she’s doing this far north. As the group seeks the person, Twyla encounters a beautiful fae named Spoll. She flirts the second Brennan describes him as hot. Twyla charms him, but the second she mentions the Temple of Frozen Doom, Spoll runs away. Rushing after, Twyla catches him, but Spoll reveals that the wizards in the Libris Aurora have his remaining family captive, holding them ransom and keeping him trapped in the town under service to repay the debts accumulated when they took refuge after Arcadia’s fall. Twyla is utterly enchanted and convinces him to wait, promising aid. The two share a kiss before parting.

Meanwhile, Troyánn, Gertrude, and Princess follow tracks to the harbor, entering the ocean through a crack in the ice as they seek the person who recognized them in the Hero’s Hearth. Unfortunately, those they track are waiting. Unable to fight, the trio manages to find out how long it will be before Troyánn’s mother learns of her location and make a calculated retreat.
The four reunite, and Gertrude scries, finding Mophandrix bears the same curse as her. She offers hope. He, in turn, reveals the magic of the wizard’s engines which keep him encased in ice. If she can refuse the engines, he promises her a boon and calls her his sister, giving her hope in return.
