Unlike most open-world games, Nikki is unable to climb or swim. Instead, she gets around with ability outfits. These outfits help her explore the world of Miraland more gracefully and elegantly. Players have to think ahead about where Nikki can land after floating or see if there are any jumpable places to get to those high-up places while exploring. This fits the game’s theme and style, as it allows players to focus on having fun exploring in a unique way. The puzzle aspect within exploration creates a sense of joy and accomplishment when players get where they want to be.
The primary focus of the game is the dress-up aspect. All the banners in the game are outfit-focused. There are sketchable pieces and outfits, as well as some clothing that can be bought, in the open-world that players can acquire. Most gacha games require players to pull on banners for additional characters that can later become less powerful as other powerful characters get released. Infinity Nikki does not have this, as the outfits do not become less powerful. While it is only the 1.1 update of the game, this does not seem likely to change. This allows players to focus on pulling for outfits they enjoy, in styles they like, instead of worrying about future outfits.
Instead of traditional fighting, there are styling challenges. While boss fights do exist, they are uncommon and easy to beat. This is because the focus of the game is not fighting, but styling. This is much more relaxing compared to the typical fighting gacha game, as once the player picks the clothes they get to watch a well-done cutscene. There is no rapid button mashing or discovering the best combos to defeat an enemy. In fact, the game will put the highest-scoring piece at the top of everything else to make it even easier. The only difficult aspect is leveling the items and creating a beautiful outfit that fits the requirements. My Nikki often looks like her closet vomited on her during the cutscenes.
Additionally, players can dress up Nikki in game. There are plenty of sketches and clothing available, allowing each Nikki to be unique to the players. This replaces the typical male or female protagonist that players have to pick. Nikki is also the only character that players get to play as, though there is an ability outfit that allows players to play as Momo. This means that players will likely get more attached to their Nikki, as they can dress her up however they’d like. It’s a nice reprieve from the typical male or female main character choice that other gacha games have. It makes Nikki feel less like a self-insert as she has her own wants and opinions. While there are dialogue options the player can choose, they are all distinctly a Nikki answer.
Infinity Nikki is different from other gacha games, as it is primarily a fun and cozy game. There is minimal stress while playing as it focuses on the outfits and styling Nikki. This is a refreshing take and allows for a more relaxed gameplay experience.
