On August 18th, Infold Games’ Infinity Nikki Team posted an announcement on their social media platforms about the leaks for future banners. This post called leaks a “poison to all creation” and mentioned they’d be pursuing legal action against those involved. Additionally, they provided players a handheld hammer for their Nikki, which was delivered via in-game mail. This caused some uproar amongst the players, as the handling of the announcement and the tone in which it was delivered were poor.
Players wish to know what the future outfits will be, so they could decide whether to pull for the current banners or save their diamonds for the future. Leaks are commonplace within gacha games for this reason. While some players will pull on every banner, other players are simply unable to afford the cost of doing that. These players instead pick and choose what banners they pull for. Without an official roadmap to follow, these players find themselves at a disadvantage.
Currently, Infold Games only announces the future banners for Infinity Nikki two days before the update. Compared to other gacha games, this is a very short amount of time between the announcement and subsequent release. For example, Hoyoverse games announce the new characters that will be released in the next update after the current update has been released. The exact banners for that update are announced two weeks before release. Other gacha games follow a similar pattern, with the featured character or outfit announced after the prior update and the banners for the next update announced well in advance.
Because of the late announcements of new outfits and the banners for updates, players have had to resort to other methods in order to know what to expect for the future. Players could wait until the official announcements two days before an update to pull on the outfit banners, but there would still be uncertainty. While Infold is generous with rewards, the cost to fully complete an outfit still makes diamonds a scarce resource. Additionally, there would still be the question about the future banners and whether or not the outfits in the future would be preferred to either of the current ones.
Of course, this is the nature of gacha games. There will always be that wondering about future banners, about what might exist later on. However, that said, other gacha games also give more warning about their future banners for their players. Even other properties from Infold Games, such as Love and Deepspace, have more warning for their future banners. Infinity Nikki players have already been complaining about the late reveal of future outfits and banners, so this announcement is only adding salt to the wound. At the moment, it is unclear whether or not Infold Games will backtrack their statement or if any change will be made. Additionally, fans are angrier about the tone of the message rather than the message itself. It is not uncommon for companies to discourage leaks and take action against those who leak information.
