Say what you want, but the Nintendo Switch did a lot of things right. It brought much success to Nintendo after the WiiU fumble, but more importantly, it nailed the duality of handheld and traditional console gaming. During its almost eight years, we’ve seen some older, “less popular” franchises make a comeback such as Metroid with Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered, Donkey Kong with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and F-Zero with F-Zero 99. What are some other franchises that could use a spotlight from Nintendo’s next console, the Switch 2?
With sci-fi action on the rise with the anticipation of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, I would like the Switch 2 be the platform to revive Star Fox. Whether as a shooter or an action-adventure game, it’s about time that Fox McCloud returns, bigger and better than ever.

Two other franchises I’d like to see come back in a big way are Kid Icarus and Golden Sun. Kid Icarus has the framework to be successful if given a fresh look and modern controls, especially with its history as a “sister” game to Metroid. Nintendo can expand on the Greek-inspired mythology and perhaps model its style after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Kid Icarus has always been a niche cult classic but never sold like Mario or Zelda. It’s time to give it another chance.
As far as Golden Sun is concerned, Nintendo can go no wrong with adding another RPG to its lineup. With the previous Golden Sun games stuck on Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, Nintendo could also test the waters by doing a 2D HD remake, a la Dragon Quest III.
