This page is dedicated to all hardware news announced for the Switch 2 from the April 2nd, 2025, Nintendo Direct. Kouichi Kawamoto, Producer of the Switch 2, Takuhiro Dohta, Director of the Switch 2, and Tetsuya Sasaki, Hardware Design Lead for the Switch 2 hosted this hour-long extravaganza. The Nintendo Direct kicked out with Mario Kart World, but many of us are eager to learn about the system itself:
The Nintendo Switch 2’s Features:
- GameChat, the elusive C button: this is Nintendo’s new “social” button. GameChat allows more immersive online game play with friends. It can pick up sound from a distance and even minimize background noise. Game screen sharing will also be available.

If that wasn’t enough, you can play games and chat, even if you aren’t all playing the same game. Other features include enlarging your game screen or another’s game screen, taking screenshots together in-game, management via the Parental Controls app, and with use of a Switch 2 camera, add yourself via camera feed.

A Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) account is required for the GameChat feature; however, an open access will be available for a limited time through March 31st, 2026.

- Larger Screen, Same Thickness: The Switch 2 will be 7.9 inches, double the pixels with 1080p, LCD with HDR support (alone and docked)
- Joy-Con 2: magnetic, mouse abilities for certain games, larger SR/SL buttons and left/right sticks

- Power and Storage: 120 FPS, 256 GB, 4K when docked, fan ventilation and power cooling, micro–SD Express card only, allowing high speed data transfer possible (regular micro-SD will not be compatible)

- Audio: improved speakers/audio with built in mic, immersive surround sound

- Improved and flexible stand
- 2 USB-C ports
- New Switch Pro controller, complete with new GR and GL buttons for button assignment, an audio jack, and C button

How Games Work
There will be three kinds of games:
- Switch 2 exclusive games: These cartriges will be the same size but red in color
- Compatible Switch 1 games which will be backwards compatible
- Switch 2 Enhanced games
- A paid tech demo game will be available on launch day
- Use your Nintendo Account to perform data transfer

The Switch 2 will launch June 5th. It is important to note that price and pre-order information was not provided at the Direct, but online sources have provided a $449.99 USD price point and pre-order date of April 9th. The official Nintendo Switch 2 website will be up later today.
Please check back for more updates throughout the day!
