Since Destiny 2: The Final Shape concluded its epic showdown with The Witness last June, the future of the franchise has felt uncertain. Many longtime Guardians seemed ready to hang up their Ghosts, and the lukewarm response to the post-expansion Episodes—combined with Bungie’s internal studio struggles—led to growing speculation that the studio had shifted its focus to Marathon, leaving Destiny 2 in the background. But for those still following Bungie’s weekly “This Week in Destiny” updates (or TWID, as we lovingly it) and paying attention to in-game changes, it’s clear that a new chapter is just beginning.

On Tuesday, during a special Destiny 2 developer livestream, Bungie unveiled a new cinematic trailer for The Edge of Fate, launching July 15 as the first chapter of The Fate Saga. In this next chapter, Guardians will team up with both familiar allies and new faces to explore the mysterious new destination, Kepler, and uncover an ancient threat that challenges everything they thought they knew about the Sol system.
During the livestream, Bungie unveiled major updates coming in the Year of Prophecy, including a deep dive into the new World Tiers system. Set on the planet Kepler, the gameplay showcase highlighted destination-specific abilities, new enemy types, and intense combat scenarios. Bungie also introduced The Portal—a new, centralized hub designed to make it easier for players to jump into content, earn rewards, unlock bonus drops, and collect themed armor sets.
Pre-orders for the Year of Prophecy are now live. Players who pre-order will gain access to The Edge of Fate expansion on July 15 and Renegades on December 2. Those who opt for the Ultimate Edition will receive instant bonuses, including the Exotic Sniper Rifle New Land Beyond, an exclusive Exotic Ghost, a unique Legendary emblem, the Year of Prophecy Exotic emote, and the Star Wars-themed Dark Side Legends ornament set.
As a fan of Destiny since the D1 Alpha, The Final Shape felt like the ending we Veteran Guardians truly deserved. But now that the dust has settled and the Light has found new meaning, I’m ready to step into a new chapter—and a new journey—in this universe. It’s been a long time since Destiny held this much mystery, with the lore surrounding the Nine, the Emissary, Lodi, Kepler, and the unknown threat ahead pulling us deeper into the unknown once again. Eyes up, Guardians, our Fate has been challenged. See you Starside on July 15, 2025.
