Ubisoft has announced the leadership team for its new subsidiary, naming Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, as co-CEO.

The subsidiary, backed by a €1.16 billion, or $1.35 billion US, investment from Tencent, was introduced earlier this year with the goal of independently managing Ubisoft’s three flagship franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
Charlie Guillemot returns to Ubisoft after previously leading the mobile studio Owlient and co-founding the Web3 indie developer Unagi. He will share the co-CEO role with Christophe Derennes, a 35 year Ubisoft veteran who formerly led the Montreal studio and currently serves as managing director for Ubisoft North America. Together, they are charged with shaping the strategic vision of the subsidiary and ensuring that teams have the right conditions to deliver their best work.
Ubisoft said both leaders bring valuable experience and a shared focus on innovation. In response to questions about nepotism, Charlie acknowledged his family ties but said his appointment reflects his professional background and Ubisoft’s current needs. He pointed to his years of experience and said his focus is on helping the company move forward.
Tencent holds a minority stake in the new venture, but Ubisoft retains full control. The new structure is part of a broader plan to give more attention and resources to its biggest franchises in a fast-changing industry.
This follows reports from March that Ubisoft was seeking a potential buyer or strategic partner amid financial struggles. Tencent’s investment provided the company with the support it needed to remain stable while it undergoes a company-wide restructure.
