Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the next game in Ubisoft’s blockbuster franchise, has been revealed.
Starting a teaser stream on Wednesday with renowned digital artist, BossLogic, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was officially revealed on Thursday with a beautiful cinematic CG trailer. Ubisoft Montreal (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Origins) will be sending players to ninth century Norway and England as Viking leader, Eivor, who’s mission is to bring the Vikings to the four kingdoms of England.
Players will be able to customize their Eivor however they like, including gender, hair style, tattoos, armor, weapons, and war paint. Game Director Ashraf Ismail told IGN in an interview, “The gear system has been revamped quite a lot to really push a balance between having great gameplay-oriented gear, but also the look that players can really customize the look of that gear.”
A return of naval combat also seems to be making it’s return, but with a deeper, more meaningful purpose than in Origins and Odyssey (think the pirate ships in Black Flag). Eivor will lead his clan members into a new gameplay feature called raids, where players will sale on waterfronts, battling enemy ships and camps to retrieve rewards such as money, materials, resources, and more.
More information on gameplay and story will be revealed during the Xbox event on May 7th, but we are absolutely excited to jump back into the world of Assassin’s Creed.
Our Take
As a huge fan of Assassin’s Creed since it’s inception on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the last two entries have been a game changer for me in terms of what I want from the franchise. Though the Desmond saga was great (though ended on a somewhat odd note) and the following entries were hit or miss, Origins and Odyssey have redefined the series in such a positive way. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla seems to be not only continuing the trend, but building on it in an interesting and massive way. I personally will be covering the game up until it hits my Xbox Series X this holiday and beyond.
