Monster Hunter Wilds released the second title update for the game. With that update, we were given two monsters, making an awesome return to the franchise. Lagiacrus was the main entrée, and Seregios was a surprising and delicious addition. Both of these monsters have been an absolute joy to tackle over and over, as is the formula for Monster Hunter.
While it is wonderful to see Seregios in the “main” Monster Hunter games, its recent appearance in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak left me wanting something more from it. While it is incredibly fast and disastrously powerful I think it lacks something to make it more impactful. Lagiacrus, on the other hand, has returned with a more notable punch.
Lagiacrus debuted in Monster Hunter Tri in 2009. In its home game, Lagiacrus was the “Lord of the Seas” in contrast to Rathalos’ title of “King of the Skies.” The title Lagiacrus had makes sense considering you could fight monsters underwater. Underwater combat has only made a single appearance in the franchise’s history, but gained a cult following. Fans that adored the underwater combat have missed it dearly, and claim that fighting Lagiacrus on land doesn’t showcase its full power.
Thankfully, the team working on Monster Hunter Wilds has put in a lot of effort to bring some semblance of underwater combat back to life. Our current hunters can’t swing and shoot their weapons in the water like the hunters from Moga Village in Monster Hunter Tri. However, we do get to dive into a special encounter with Lagiacrus and see it showcasing its fantastic aquatic mobility and power. Overall, Lagiacrus has shown that it’s no slouch with incredible combo attacks, massive power, and the ability to rapidly cause party members to cart and end quests victorious over those who would dare to hunt it.
I personally think the return of Lagiacrus has been phenomenal. I also started the franchise with Monster Hunter Generations, so I get to enjoy returning monsters with a lack of nostalgia attached. What do you think? You can let us know over on the Boss Rush Network’s Discord!
