Capcom has announced a new entry in its Monster Hunter spin-off RPG series during Thursday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will weave a brand new tale in the beloved series, which will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC/Steam in 2026.
The cinematic trailer teased a story that appears to be on a much grander scale than the series has seen before, complete with political intrigue, new villains, and a story with emotional impact.
Although no gameplay was featured in the trailer, the official synopsis confirms that the third entry in the Stories games will continue the turn-based combat of its predecessors: “Embark on a new adventure as a Rider living in harmony with monsters in the third instalment of the turn-based RPG series set in the world of Monster Hunter. Amidst an environmental calamity, a monster hatches, bearing a symbol of misfortune that drives two neighboring kingdoms to war. The heirs of these two kingdoms venture into forbidden ground in search of the truth.”
The Monster Hunter Stories games began in 2016 on the 3DS. Although previous entries started as Nintendo exclusives, both titles have since been ported to the PlayStation 4 and Windows in 2024. It’s fortunate for fans, then, that Monster Hunter Stories 3 appears to be launching simultaneously on all devices when it arrives next year.
The Monster Hunter franchise is one of Capcom’s most profitable and popular, which is saying a lot when Capcom also publishes such classics as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Mega Man.
