Bungie has unveiled new details about Renegades, the next Destiny 2 expansion arriving December 2, 2025.
Set in the Lawless Frontier, the story follows the fallout from The Edge of Fate as the Drifter has been captured and is frozen in Stasis as a new Cabal faction—the Barant Imperium—rises to power.
Developed in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, Renegades clearly draws inspiration from the galaxy far, far away. Destiny‘s Praxic Order takes on the role of the Jedi: a disciplined, Light-bound force of peacekeepers. The Dredgen channel the dark side, with a lead character that evokes strong Darth Revan vibes from Knights of the Old Republic. The Barant Imperium, meanwhile, appears pulled straight from the First Order’s ranks. Even the Drifter’s icy fate seems to nod to Han Solo’s carbonite imprisonment.
Bungie has also teased a Cabal superweapon with unmistakable Death Star energy—yet one that remains consistent with the game’s lore. Fans of the Red War campaign will recall large-scale weapons are a signature of the Cabal, making this development a natural extension of Destiny’s universe.
Renegades introduces the Lawless Frontier, a vast sandbox where players take on smuggling, sabotage, and bounty hunting missions to build their underworld reputation. Climbing the ranks unlocks “Renegade Abilities,” letting Guardians call in airstrikes, deploy Cabal walkers, or wield powers tied to the Nine. Bungie promises chaotic, replayable missions across environments inspired by Hoth (Europa), Dagobah (Savathun’s Throne World), and Tatooine (Mars).
The expansion also adds new loot, including Blasters—weaponry that swaps reloads for cooldowns—and the Praxic Blade, the Praxic Order’s lightsaber-inspired weapon, offering Guardians a customizable relic from a more refined era. New armor sets, cosmetics, and a Dungeon complete the package, giving players multiple reasons to return to the world of Destiny, including the X-Wing inspired Exotic ship.
Destiny 2: Renegades launches December 2 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
