Right in time for the Halloween season, Capcom teased us with more Resident Evil Requiem news. As the 9th main installment in the franchise, Capcom aims to celebrate Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary in a major way. This includes some Nintendo exclusive products such as a Resident Evil Pro Controller and amiibo. With a third-party franchise that large, these announcements are an incredible sign of things to come for Nintendo gamers.
Let’s reset here: Nintendo has always been known for its innovation and top-tier first-party titles. However, it is no secret that third-party support has been lacking for many years. Some of the massive, blockbuster third-party titles either remain on Xbox and/or PlayStation or eventually make their way to the Nintendo Switch (or other console) much, much later. Even then, many of those are Cloud versions only. There are plenty of contributing factors, primarily porting challenges and technology limitations, but the Switch 2 promises a brighter future for Nintendo players.
When the Switch 2 was initially announced, we started to see these third-party games trickle into the pipeline, such as Cyberpunk 2077 (granted way beyond its initial release date), Eldin Ring: Tarnished Edition, and From Software’s latest and greatest for 2026, The Duskbloods.
We’ve known Resident Evil Requiem was coming to the Switch 2 for a little while now, but another rush of announcements proved that Capcom and Nintendo are saddling up for more than just the game’s release. Breaking early on October 30th, Capcom announced that pre-orders are live, and that there will be a Resident Evil Requiem amiibo of Grace Ashcroft arriving Summer 2026. This comes after three Street Fighter 6 amiibo as well. In addition to that, but Nintendo will be selling a RE9-themed Pro Controller as well for a whopping $99.99 USD. [Author’s Note: The pro-controller is already sold out as of the time of this writing]

This enthusiastic support from Capcom is a barometer that we can remain (cautiously) optimistic for third-party support on the Switch 2. I personally am feeling more and more comfortable that we will not only see these AAA games make it onto the Nintendo platform on the same date as other platforms but also some pretty amazing accessories and collectables. If I want to extrapolate further, imagine getting a Leon Kennedy amiibo and Resident Evil characters in the next Super Smash Bros. title?

Let your imagination run wild (but keep those expectations within reach, of course).
