Title: Dimension 20 Live: Quangle Quest

We return to the realm of Spyre and the Bad Kids. Kristen has gone missing. While some suspect that she’s merely dating someone new, Fig laments her dead oyster pet, ‘Lil Gilear’, which distracts the group until Arthur Aguefort arrives, and Gorgug gets the group back on track.

Arthur announces Kristen has quangled with a peppermint assassin, an elderly witch, a strange man with dream magic, and a small business owner across multiple dimensions. In order to save their friend, the group embraces bracers and the ability to shift into their other dimensional counterparts if needed. The bracers came from the combined efforts of Arthur Aguefort, Plug, and the Baba Yaga. That’s a team up that I’d love to hear more about.

After Fig shifts into Ylga Snorgelsson, the audience and Emily rolled for the head and body of their enemy, resulting in what Brennan notes is likely the worst option as their enemy has the body of the Night Yorb and the head of Kalina, combining two prior enemies who balance each other out almost worryingly well. The fact that both lean toward cult behavior is a fun worry for down the line as well.

With a need for stealth, Adaine quangles, changing to Ruby Rocks. The immediate rapport between Ruby and Ylga leads Gorgug to change into Norman ‘Skipper’ Takamori before shifting to Pib as Pinocchio’s cricket appears, requiring aid from quangled villains who shift between different former enemies. Pinocchio soon joins them. Unfortunately, when Riz joins the quangling of his friends, he becomes Cody – the least useful of Murph’s characters. Luckily, Gerald soon takes his place. Rosamund replaces Ruby as well.

Ylfa switches to Sofia, who arrives with her baby, Catherine ‘Cat’ Lee. Her presence and Gerald’s confusion cause a cascade of changes, bringing Ricky Matsui and King Amethar Rocks. Chaos unfolds. As they adventure forth, the group ends up having to disguise themselves when crossing through a room filled of villains.

Though it’s close, they manage to find the quangled Kristen, and all of Ally’s characters combine into Brennan’s nightmare of British Kristen. British Kristen proclaimed the group needed to go to Zood, and with that, the live show ended.

Highlights

As with all of their Quangle Tour, I love seeing Rick Perry running out with his T-shirt cannon. I really wish we had more behind the scenes time with the art department. Their work is always on point.

I also loved seeing the group absolutely fumble to deceive and fight their ways to critical rolls that allowed them slide through the mess of sneaking across a convention of villains.

Final Score (3 out of 5 Stars)

The show was absolute chaos. Giving the players control when they quangled between forms, it tied together the rest of the Time Quangle shows, somewhat explaining the situation outside of Fabian’s nemesis Chungledown Bim; however, it also made it a bit difficult to follow along in a live show where the art department wasn’t supporting the story with key event visuals. I have never needed an Adventuring Party more for something with no canon permanency.

This one seals the deal. Being in the audience at one of these events likely is incredible, but watching the one-shot after is just not engaging. Worse, this particular one just feels like fan fodder, creating opportunities for characters to interact who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity as they reference popular canon moments. At least with Chungledown, they built toward something. This was definitely a miss.
