Insight on Nintendo’s Goals and Future from President Shuntaro Furukawa

Kyoto Shimbun, a Japanese media outlet, interviewed Shuntaro Furukawa, the current President of Nintendo. There, he shares many goals and aspirations for the company in the coming year and beyond. Below is a brief summary of President Furukawa’s comments.

One primary focus is of course, hardware. While he reports that Switch 2 supplies are stable in most areas in the world, Nintendo is still working on meetings demands in Japan. Furukawa wants to remain competitive, hoping that the Switch 2 will be the first console for the younger generations.

President Furukawa views this generation’s hardware as “forgiving“, “generous“, and “accommodating” in order to support both first- and third-party software. While he didn’t comment on any possibility of price increases, Furukawa confirmed a strong intent to further beef up the lineup moving forward. And speaking of software, the President coyly hinted that Nintendo is working on a brand-new title of an already beloved series.

How about Nintendo’s dabbling outside of video games? Well, President Furukawa wants their media presence in movies to expose audiences to their characters. Nintendo is full steam ahead with marketing The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie and also plan to disseminate more information on the Zelda movie in due time. Furukawa is also open-minded about a possible anime if an ideal partnership is ever formed.
