Resident Evil Requiem Surpasses 5 Million Copies in 5 Days

Capcom announced on Tuesday that the recently released Resident Evil Requiem has sold 5 million copies in just as many days, officially becoming the fastest selling Resident Evil title ever.

The title first hit store shelves on February 27, 2026.

For comparison, the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2–the current best-selling title in the series with 16.8 million copies–sold only 3 million units in its first week. Similarly, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village both had similar openings.

Capcom credits Requiem‘s success due to high critical acclaim, touting the four awards the game won at Gamescom 2025 as clear indication that it is a one of the best gaming experiences players can have this calendar year.

The Japanese developer also notes that this is the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and that it’s high sales are indicative of a passionate, global fanbase that has propelled the series to over 183 million units sold across 3 decades.

Resident Evil Requiem’s high sales are also undoubtedly a result of the game being available across a multitude of platforms at launch, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Most recent Resident Evil titles have skipped out on Nintendo consoles due to hardware limitations, and PC ports have often been delayed for optimization.
