PAX West 2026: Destiny Community Party Shows Why Being a Guardian Is Still About More Than the Game

2–3 minutes

What comes from the light returns to the light. That was the message to the Guardians after The Final Shape.

When I joined the Destiny Alpha back in 2013, I had no idea how important this franchise would become in my life. The friends we’ve made, the raids we’ve conquered, the weapons we’ve chased, and the armor we’ve customized all mean so much because we experienced them together as a community.

Three people posing together at a convention or event, smiling at the camera. The person on the left has a cap and is wearing a black hoodie, while the person in the center has blue hair and is wearing a colorful jacket. The person on the right has a shaved head and earrings, and is wearing a black t-shirt.

My journey as a content creator, and the creation of Boss Rush, were built in large part on our Destiny content. It started with DNA Weekly Strike on the DNA Network and eventually became Tower Casuals: The Destiny Podcast. We went from simply being fans of the game to having one of our reviews featured in the Accolades Trailer for Destiny 2: The Final Shape. That is something I will never forget.

When Bungie announced that active development on Destiny 2 was coming to an end, it was heartbreaking for the community. Even if the game wasn’t in the place we had hoped it would be by this point, it was still hard to accept. Destiny was never just a game. It was a place where we met people, built friendships, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

Three men posing for a photo at an event, wearing badges and casual attire.

Taking that feeling with me to the Destiny Community Party meant more to me than I expected. Meeting Joe Telesk from Guardians Mental Health and finally meeting Liana Rupert in person after 12 years of talking through social media were moments I will always remember. Being surrounded by people who shared the same love for this game was bittersweet, but it was also the best time I’ve had at a panel or gaming event in a long time.

Destiny is more than a game to all of us. It is a community built on unity, friendship, and trust. It was the light that brought us together. Not just the Traveler’s Light, but the light created by the players who dedicated countless hours to building something that will live on long after the game itself.

You were always my favorite, and I hope you know that.

Thank you to the Bungie CMs, Liana, DMG, and everyone else who helped make this community something worth being a part of. You helped create a community that shaped who we are today. For that, we owe you everything.
