A new MMORPG release is a big deal, but IRL and technical issues could end up making or breaking your launch day. With World of Warcraft: Forever dropping November 4 at 3:00 PM PST, it could be good to do some last minute preparations. If you’re looking to get a leg up, there’s a few important things to know.
1. Expect Serious Congestion On Day One
Historically, WoW releases are not well known for their smooth launches, and I don’t expect Forever to be any different. If you’re playing on the extremely popular PvE or PvP servers, expect 2-3 hour queues, with the additional risk of outages or disconnects for several hours following. The RP and RP-PvP servers will no doubt be better, but there’s no guarantee of getting in fast or staying in once you do.
2. Try to Find A Community Before Going In
With the best speedrunners in the game discovering that dungeons can massively speed up leveling in the opening week, finding a guild is more important than ever. If you can find one that matches your values on the Reddit, Blizzard Forums, or Discord server for your respective server, you can expedite the process of finding groups and make your process smoother. Remember, it’s a team game!
3. Have Your Route Memorized
This tip may benefit experienced players more, but players of any skill should familiarize themselves with where they are starting, what zones they plan to level in after their starting zones, and what content they want to do early on. Are you Horde and want to dodge the massive wave of Tauren, Orcs, Trolls, and Elves flooding into The Barrens at level 11? Try going to Silverpine Forest instead. Same for Alliance characters and Darkshore instead of Westfall. Knowing what big jackpot quest items your class would most benefit from before you hit the level ranges can ensure you keep downtime to a minimum.
4. Always Be Grinding
If there is anything you should nail into your head while playing it’s ABG: Always Be Grinding. If you’re going to a quest, kill mobs along the way. If you’re going to a dungeon, kill mobs, mine ores, or pick herbs. If you practice proper ABG, even on long boring treks across Azeroth you can maintain a steady income of experience. When I first learned this trick in 2019 Classic, it changed everything. You can skip entire quest chains if you get good enough at it. Especially prioritize your ABG after you get a big jackpot weapon reward from a dungeon quest or boss, when your DPS is often at its relative highest.
5. Deal With IRL Aggro During Downtime
Having sudden complications that get you up from your desk can be frustrating, but if you can time your productivity with long periods of downtime like when you’re smelting ores, taking a long flight path, or waiting at a dungeon entrance for your friends, you can get the best of both worlds. Refilling your water and showing your neglected spouse some love is a tried-and-true flight path pastime.
This week may very well be one of the most chaotic videogame releases in decades. Prepare ahead, and you might just survive! If you have any advice for getting ahead of the pack, please share it with us on our Facebook Group or our Discord.
