Sony Acquires Bungie for $3.6 Billion
Acquisitions are Al the rage these days as Microsoft and Sony have both said they aren’t done buying studios. This past week Sony struck back as they purchased the studio that created Halo and literally built the Xbox, Bungie. Good news for those who are a fan of their games however, as the Destiny studio will operate as a separate entity and all of their current and future projects will remain multiplatform. The deal seems to be more than just a simple acquisition, as Sony has the resources to allow Bungie to become a multimedia entertainment company while Bungie has a massive skill set for Sony to utilize as they expand into live service and multiplayer offerings.
MLB The Show will Debut on Xbox Game Pass for the Second Year in a row.
For the second straight year, Microsoft and Major League Baseball have announced that the popular baseball sim developed by Sony San Diego will come to Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft will also handle all marketing through the MLB of the once PlayStation exclusive.
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially “well into development” at Rockstar Games
The next entry to the Grand Theft Auto franchise is well into development, according to sources. Not that we didn’t already know that, this is the first time it has been acknowledged by the publisher. Not much else is known except for the rumor that the game could be returning to Vice City and Liberty City.
Games With Gold:
Microsoft has officially announced their Games With Gold for February 2022. Included with your Xbox Live Gold subscription or Xbox GamePass Ultimate subscription are the Xbox One games Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse and Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield, while the Xbox 360 offerings include Hydrophobia and Band of Bugs. Remember all of these games are backwards compatible on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Even if you don’t plan on playing them now, add them to your library for later. Free is free.
