Rock Out with this Guitar Cover of “Gang-Plank Galleon Theme”

After surviving one of the more grueling platformer campaigns of the SNES generation, players face off against the infamous King K. Rool, the final boss in Donkey Kong Country. The battle is absolutely epic, with giant cannonballs dropping on deck while the enormous crocodile throws his crown and leaps over DK and Diddy Kong. Perhaps most iconic though, “Gang-Plank Galleon Theme” ranks as one of the best final battle soundtracks of the era.

Now, thanks to the Ottawa Guitar Trio, fans can once again enjoy the iconic track. Their cover (featured below) re-imagines the song via classical style acoustic guitar.

The Ottawa Guitar Trio describes themselves as “a dynamic Canadian classical guitar ensemble” dedicated to “dynamic movie soundtracks, nostalgic video game scores, timeless classical repertoire, as well as original music for guitar trio.”

For those curious, the original version of “Gang-Plank Galleon Theme” was composed by David Wise in 1994. Listen to the classic version below:
