Today during Summer Game Fest, Microsoft leadership spoke out about the future of Xbox, GamePass, and the future of gaming. In a video released during the event, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, and Microsoft CEO, Satyna Nadella, discussed how essential gaming was to Microsoft’s brand.
“There are really three, I think, areas or key areas where we believe we have incredible competitive advantage. First is our leadership in cloud computing; second, the resources we have to build out the subscription value with Xbox Game Pass; and third is our overall focus on empowering creators. I’m really excited about the opportunity in gaming.”

Phil Spencer and the team at Xbox announced that they are working with multiple global TV manufacturers to incorporate Xbox GamePass apps onto their smart TV storefronts, making it easier than ever to access Microsoft’s ever growing subscription service. By eliminating the $500 (USD) price point of the box, all gamers will potentially need is a bluetooth controller of any kind to play Halo, Gears of War, Destiny, Forza, and more.

While we already knew Microsoft has been rebuilding their brand since shortly after the less than stellar launch of the Xbox One, what we learned today was that Microsoft has bigger plans for Xbox, cloud gaming, and GamePass. Microsoft is focusing more than ever on ecosystem expansion and less on hardware.

Xbox also reiterated today that they now own 23 studios under their banner with all first party titles hitting Xbox GamePass on Day One. With games like Senua’s Saga, Starfield, Indiana Jones, Halo, Elder Scrolls, and more on the way, it’s never been a better time to be an Xbox gamer.
