Stolen Data and Source Code For Sale Online After EA Hacked

Hackers have just breached Electronic Arts, publisher of such games as FIFA, Battlefield, and The Sims, stealing data and source codes, in a stunning capture of 750GBs of information. The news was first reported by Motherboard, confirming that hackers alleged the ability to exploit and manipulate codes from FIFA 21 and its matchmaking server, along with tools for the Frostbite engine. From back door forum posts, hackers are now saying they have the data and are currently selling it to the highest bidder in these forum posts. Additional information such as streamlining game development codes and access to EA frameworks were also stolen. According to Motherboard, screenshots of exactly how hackers were able to access EA’s data are in the forums as well.

While speaking with Motherboard EA explained that after learning of this massive breach, they immediately began working with law enforcement to investigate this matter. This is what one spokesperson had to say:

“No player data was accessed, and we have no reason to believe there is any risk to player privacy. Following the incident, we’ve already made security improvements and do not expect an impact on our games or our business. We are actively working with law enforcement officials and other experts as part of this ongoing criminal investigation.”
