The French animation company, Cyber Group Studios, has signed a deal with Square Enix to bring the popular RPG game Final Fantasy IX to the small screen as an animated series per kidscreen’s report. The show will be in production by 2021 or early 2022, and will be targeted toward children between the ages of 8-13.
Cyber Group is said to oversee worldwide distributions, merchandise, and licensing as well as producing the show.
Final Fantasy has been the focal point for animated series in the past, but this will be the first time that the ninth installment of the popular gaming series is the focal point for a TV series. Final Fantasy IX tends to be considered the black sheep of the PS One trilogy, but it still has a cult following with an adaptable story, fitting for the world of animation.

The series is still in the planning stages, but from the report, Cyber Group wants to start production by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
Final Fantasy IX follows the adventures of Zidane Tribal, a thief tasked with kidnapping the Princess Garnet. During the kidnapping, the princess ends up convincing Zidane and team to join forces with her to stop the Queen, her mother, which leads to meeting a slew of interesting characters and seeing a beautiful world open up as the story unfolds.
