MLB Power Rankings: The Dodgers Dominate

The 2021 MLB Season is quickly approaching a beautiful escape to the playoffs, and that means we are in the home stretch of the season. The NL West has a new leader for the first time since April 25th, the AL East is heating up as the Yankees put pressure on the Rays, and will the NL East produce a champion that might stand a chance in the playoffs? We will talk about all that and more as we power rank the MLB.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

For the first time since April 25th, the Dodgers are leading the NL West, as of Friday they are tied with the Giants, but the Giants have finally shown signs of weakness. The Dodgers play their final series of the season against the Giants this weekend.

2. San Francisco Giants

There are still 4 weeks left in the season but this weekend’s series against the Dodgers is a “must-win” series. The Giants need to prove that they won’t crash at the end of the season, and a series win against the Dodgers will move mountains as far as momentum is concerned within the clubhouse.

3. Tampa Bay Rays

I think it’s safe to say that the Rays have won the division, heading into September with a 7 game lead is a strong sign for the Rays. 

4. Milwaukee Brewers

The Brew Crew is making a statement by dominating the NL Central. The Brewers lead the 2nd place Reds by 10 games; the Brewers are putting on an absolute clinic and they will not be caught. 

5. Houston Astros

If there is a weakness amongst the division leaders in the AL it’s in the West. The Astros have arguably the best lineup in the West but it’s not living up to its potential. Carlos Correa came out this week and said this is his last year with the Astros — so I have to ask “are issues in the clubhouse making their way into the performance on the field”? It’s strange for a player like Carlos to come out before the end of the season and make a statement like this, I think this speaks volumes to the issues within the Astros organization. 

6. Chicago White Sox

If we are talking strictly about the AL Central, the White Sox are easily the best team within the division, if we take a look at the potential AL playoff teams I have to put the White Sox in the bottom half. I think the White Sox are good, but they really haven’t been tested as a unit since the beginning of the season. 

7. New York Yankees

The Yankees are the most dangerous wild card team going into the playoffs. Imagine if in October the Yankees can get Stanton, Judge, Gallo, Rizzo, and Voit to all hit in the clutch; this Yankees team is my favorite going into the AL Wildcard round. 

8. Boston Red Sox

Alex Cora finally had a great week as a manager! Cora really showed that he knows how to effectively use the bullpen this week as the Sox won 4 games this week. 

9. Oakland Athletics

The Athletics need consistent pitching to catch up to the Astros. The Athletics play 16 games against the AL West in September and each game is crucial in the quest to the playoffs.

10. Seattle Mariners

Imagine if the Mariners had been buyers the deadline instead of sellers, I will never understand why the Mariners didn’t take a chance on this season. 

11. Atlanta Braves

The Braves might win the NL East and yet they probably won’t win 90 games.

13. Toronto Blue Jays

Blue Jay fans…next year is your year. 

14. San Diego Padres
15. Philadelphia Phillies 
16. St. Louis Cardinals
17. Cleveland Indians
18. New York Mets
19. Los Angeles Angels
20. Detroit Tigers
21. Colorado Rockies
22. Chicago Cubs

Hope for the Cubs lies at first base with a man called Patrick Wisdom. 

23. Kansas City Royals

Salvador Perez won’t be in the race for AL MVP but he should win the AL Silver Slugger.

25. Washington Nationals
26. Miami Marlins
27. Pittsburgh Pirates
28. Texas Rangers
29. Arizona Diamondbacks
30. Baltimore Orioles.
