The Nintendo Switch has been a success for the company for many reasons. Four years into it’s life cycle, it is still difficult to find one for purchase in stores or online. Games native to the system are constantly at the top of the sales charts, and there is no sign of it slowing down any time soon. There’s no question, the Switch is a hit. Additionally, one other thing the Switch has done really well is to put the spotlight on dormant franchises and revitalize other popular ones. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought a breath of fresh air (pun intended) to the starting-to-show-its-age series. Pikmin 3: Deluxe sold extremely well for the series, and brought the franchise into many new homes that had never played it before. Paper Mario: The Origami King returned the series to previous highs and did well with critics and fans alike. Don’t even get me started on the juggernaut that is Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. With the recent release (and hopeful success) of Metroid Dread, the question now becomes: which dormant series should Nintendo bring to the Switch next?
It seems that everything the Switch touches turns to gold. Kirby is getting his first big 3D platformer in next year’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Which other franchises should Nintendo release on it’s hybrid system? I know many people are clamoring for a new entry in the F-Zero franchise, while others are hoping for a proper sequel to Earthbound.
For me, I’d love to see a true return to form for the Star Fox series. I love Star Fox 64, and would love to see Fox and crew take to the stars once again on the Nintendo Switch. The last game came out in 2016, which isn’t that far away, but it didn’t light the world on fire with it’s awkward control scheme. I just want a true sequel to the 64 classic.
