Nakoi Yoshida had high hopes on a lavish reveal for the latest iteration of Final Fantasy at the end of 2021. Unfortunately, he informed the public that COVID-19 impacted production significantly. Because the team consists of creators across the globe, the Tokyo office hit challenge after challenge delivering assets to their outsourced partners. So far, this has caused about six month delay.
This is not uncommon as the pandemic has slowed down production in the video game industry in both 2020 and 2021. Fans appear patient as Yoshida wants to focus on perfecting graphics and combat system.
The current roadmap suggests a FF XVI reveal in Spring 2022. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
