Strap on your guitars and make a list of all your exes. Netflix is developing a new Scott Pilgrim vs. the World series, this time an anime adaptation of the original comic. Creator Bryan Lee O’Malley and Are You Afraid of the Dark’s BenDavid Grabinksi are both set to executive produce.
It’s been just over eleven years since Edgar Wright’s live-action film adaptation, starring Michael Cera, bombed at the box office. Since then it’s become a cult classic. Wright and some other producers of the film will also receive executive producer credits should a series order be placed. The adaptation has not yet been green-lit, so fans will have to wait to see if their favorite slacker finds love through over-the-top video game violence.
The animation is expected to be handled by Science SARU, which produced Devilman Crybaby, Super Shiro, and two shorts from Star Wars: Visions. An anime adaptation might seem fitting to fans considering the graphic novel’s manga influences.
Scott Pilgrim published its sixth and final volume in 2010. None of the cast members of Edgar Wright’s film adaptation are currently attached to the project.
