There’s one game that every Xbox fan has on their radar, and that’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. From its initial mind blowing reveal to its unbelievable gameplay showcase at 2021’s Game Awards, the game looks more realistic not only in its cinematic presentation, but also its animation and graphics.

In a recent tweet, Ninja Theory showcased Senua’s Saga again, bringing the titular character up close and personal showing off the details in the skin, eyes, sweat, and more. What they showcased was how they are using and creating new graphical techniques for modeling their characters, using the real life skin references and references for eye materials.
In the image to the left, Ninja Theory showcases Senua’s “clean” face, showing how the skin’s scars and imperfections can be crafted realistically within Unreal Engine 5. On the right, textures like sweat, warpaint, and dirt show realistic each characteristic can smear and trail in a natural way. The result really shows what the developer wants to accomplish with their vision within the engine.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass some time this year. Are you excited for the return of Senua?
