With Russia engaged in attacks on Ukraine, the world has its eyes on the turbulent situation in Eurasia. The aggressive action committed by Russian president Vladimir Putin has drawn widespread condemnation from nations across the world with many countries taking up actions to try and quell the conflict before it becomes something bigger than it currently is. Within the gaming community, it also appears that things are being done as well.

Bungie (Destiny 2), CD Projekt (Cyberpunk 2077), 11 bit studios (This War of Mine), and several other studios have announced plans to make donations to organizations in an effort to help war victims in Ukraine. Bungie recently announced on February 24th that the company will be donating 100% of proceeds of the first 48 hours of their Game2Give charity, a Destiny 2 event currently running through March 2nd, to aid Ukraine amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Polish neighbors CD PROJEKT Group has donated 1 million PLN ($240,000 USD) to Polska Akcja Humanaitarna, a Polish humanitarian organization that is currently in Ukraine, to support their operation in Ukraine helping civilians suffering from the invasion. The developer announced the news via Twitter on February 25th along with a statement about the invasion.

Developer 11 bit studios released their own statement and declaration this past week regarding the invasion and declared their intent to donate to the Ukrainian Red Cross to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. The developer is donating all profits from This War of Mine and its DLC to the cause. Currently, This War of Mine is currently on sale on the PlayStation Store. You can find it under This War Of Mine: The Little Ones which is the base game that also comes with the expansion that adds children and some other elements. Take note, the game has some heavy elements about war from the perspective of civilians trying to survive in times of war.

Digital Extremes has donated $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for their part in the humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine also.

There are many studios within Ukraine such as GSC Game World (S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2), Frogwares (Sherlock Holmes, The Sinking City), Vostok Games (Fear The Wolves), Sengi Games (upcoming PS5 title The Serpent Rogue), Crytek Kyiv (Warface), and Ubisoft Kyiv and Odesa (Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon support) that have been impacted by the conflict and face an uncertain future at the time of this writing. Several of these studios are looking at potential relocations similarly to what happened to 4A Games (Metro franchise) who ultimately relocated to Malta following the 2014 violence within Ukraine’s borders. GSC Game World asked the gaming industry to “not stand aside and help those in need”, as well as to consider supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine through a special aid account.
