New Tomb Raider Game Being Developed Using Unreal Engine 5

During Tuesday’s State of Unreal 2022, Crystal Dynamics announced that Lara Croft will be returning in a new game built using Unreal Engine 5.

Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider general manager Dallas Dickinson stated that the new adventure will be a “high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience,” and that the team will “push the envelope of fidelity.”

Exactly what developers have in store for the eponymous Tomb Raider is yet to be seen, as no images, gameplay, plot details, or a release window were given.

2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider was the last game in the iconic franchise to be released. Since then, Crystal Dynamics moved away from the series to develop Marvel’s Avengers, as well as to aid Microsoft in developing a reboot of the N64 hit FPS Perfect Dark.

Unreal Engine 5 is the latest from Epic Games, and has proven to be very popular among developers. Recently, CD Projekt Red revealed that the next Witcher game will be using Unreal Engine 5 as well.
