Day three of the San Diego Comic-Con was the day many fans were waiting for, with DC and Marvel each taking up a big portion of the day. Many projects were announced, teased and showcased, so let’s get into everything we learned.

Black Adam (October 31, 2022)

DC’s panel started out with the Rock coming out on stage, in full Black Adam costume, seemingly floating amongst smoke and lightning.

The cast and crew unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming film, along with the news that Viola Davis would be reprising her role as Amanda Waller from previous DCEU projects. Unfortunately, there was no surprise announcement that Henry Cavill would be in Black Adam as Superman, even though it was heavily rumored before the panel. And when asked who would win in a fight between Black Adam and Superman, the Rock avoided answering by saying, “it depends on who is playing Superman.”

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (December 21, 2022)

Zachary Levi and the rest of the cast came out on stage to release the first trailer for the upcoming sequel. During the panel, we also learned that the film takes place a couple of years after the first one, where we will see the Shazam family as an established group of superheroes. When asked if Superman was in the film (who made a cameo in the post-credits scene of the first film), Levi and crew remained coy, so who knows if we’ll see the Man of Steel in this sequel.

Marvel Ends Phase Four, Announces All of Phase Five, and Teases Phase Six; All Three Phases Now Known as ‘The Multiverse Saga’

Today was a big day for MCU fans, as Keven Feige and team dropped major announcements for the next three years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Up until now, we didn’t know when Phase Four would end, nor did we know what this next saga would be called after The Infinity Saga wrapped up with Spider-Man: Far From Home. We now know when Phase Four will end, what all is in Phase Five, a little of Phase Six, and that all three phases will be called “The Multiverse Saga.”

Phase Four’s Ending

Phase Four, which started in 2020 with WandaVision, only has three projects left:

• I Am Groot (August 10, 2022), a series of shorts starring the child version of Groot from the Guardians films. We were treated to a trailer, a description of the first episode, and the fact that both Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper would reprise their roles as Groot and Rocket Raccoon, respectively, from the films.

• She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (August 17, 2022), the MCU’s ‘first half hour comedy’, which got a new trailer that featured the return of Wong (Benedict Wong) from the Doctor Strange films and ended with a tease of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in his comics-accurate red and yellow suit.

• Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11, 2022), the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, which got an incredibly emotional first trailer that gave us a glimpse at characters grieving the death of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and gave us our first glimpse of Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams (who will star in Ironheart next year) and Tenoch Huerta as Namor the Sub-Mariner.

Phase Five’s Full Slate

After Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Phase Five will begin and will contain six movies and 6 shows on Disney Plus:

• Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023), which got a new poster showing off the villainous version of Kang (Jonathan Majors) and the super heroic version of Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton). We learned that Scott is enjoying his celebrity status after saving the world in Avengers: Endgame and that the film will introduce Bill Murray to the MCU as well as the character MODOK, a giant robot head from the comics.

• Secret Invasion (Spring 2023), which got a new logo and screened some footage that hasn’t yet been released to the public. Those who are tired of the MCU being so joke-filled can rest assured, Secret Invasion is being described as more in-line with the political thriller Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The show will feature the return of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Colonel James Rupert “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle). The show will center around Fury and Talos (Ben Medelsohn, reprising his role from Captain Marvel), who are investigating an infiltration by a villainous sect of the shapeshifting Skrulls.
• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023), which also showed footage that has not yet been released to the public. The cast and crew discussed how this will be the end of the story for this version of the Guardians, and that the movie will focus on Rocket Raccoon, again voiced by Bradley Cooper. Shown in the trailer was the reunion of Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who has no memories of their time together; a brief glimpse of Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock; and Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary, who is the villain of the movie and is the person who created Rocket.
• Echo (Summer 2023), the spin-off show from last year’s Hawkeye, starring Alaqua Cox and rumored to star Charlie Cox (Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk).
• Loki Season 2 (Summer 2023), which is currently filming.
• The Marvels (July 28, 2023), which is in production now.
• Ironheart (Fall 2023), starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who is making her debut in this November’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
• Blade (November 3, 2023), starring Mahershala Ali, which starts filming this October.
• Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Winter 2023/24), which was renamed from Agatha: House of Harkness.
• Daredevil: Born Again (Spring 2024), an 18-episode season starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
• Captain America: New World Order (May 3, 2024), the fourth Captain America film, this time starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America.
• Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024), a villain/anti-hero team up movie that has been teased throughout many Phase Four projects.

Phase Six’s Starting and Ending Projects

As if announcing all of Phase Five wasn’t enough, Feige also told us three of the upcoming eleven projects in Phase Six:

• Fantastic Four (November 8, 2024)
• Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025)
• Avengers: Secret Wars (November 7, 2025)

Marvel and DC weren’t the only two that made announcements yesterday:

• Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will be returning to The Walking Dead with a new six-part limited series coming to AMC.
• Batwheels, the animated show centered around the Bat-family’s vehicles, dropped a new trailer.
• Mythic Quest returns to Apple TV+ this fall.

What to expect on Day Four

Though Comic-Con will be winding down on day four, you can expect some key TV news with FX’s panel with Mayans M.C. and What We Do In the Shadows taking center stage.
