Fans got their first look at the upcoming animated show X-Men ‘97 as part of the Marvel Animation panel on the second day of Comic-Con International.
The panel provided still images from the animated show, which is a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series of the ‘90s. The show is slated to premiere in the fall of 2023 on Disney Plus.
Other news to come out of the panel includes Marvel has already greenlit a second season for the show.
Stills from the show highlight the X-Men team, which will feature Magneto as the leader. Fans got to see Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops. There also was a still of the villains, which included Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Callisto, and Mr. Sinister.
There were also some early storyboards available showcasing some of the X-Men’s adventures. Some of those storyboards showed Wolverine, Beast, and Jean Grey fighting Sentinels.
This will be the first X-Men project Marvel Studios is producing since acquiring 20th Century Fox in 2019. While the X-Men haven’t made a direct appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there have been hints of them in recent productions including Patrick Stewart reprising his role of Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
This isn’t a lot to go off of but it’s just enough to excite fans who have heavy nostalgia for the original show. The theme song for that show is so iconic that when variations of it appear in MCU productions, it gets top-billing news. Any information about X-Men ‘97, regardless of how small, will always be exciting for fans.
