GoldenEye 007 Coming to Switch/Xbox with Online Multiplayer.

1–2 minutes

The acclaimed Nintendo 64 first-person shooter GoldenEye 007 will finally be making its return by way of the Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass services. It’s been confirmed that the game will include online multiplayer.

Rumors have circulated about a re-release of the classic RareWare title since as far back as January, so its reemergence is hardly the most surprising thing. Still, most believed that the game would arrive exclusively on the Xbox, as they currently own developer RareWare; website True Achievements unearthed a list of achievements on a Microsoft Store page for the game earlier this year before it was quickly removed.

Nintendo published the original game on the Nintendo 64 in 1997, and as such have had some degree of ownership for the title, making it complicated for the title to return in any form.

GoldenEye 007 will join several more Nintendo 64 games on the Switch, which can be played by anyone with a membership to the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack.

Players can also relive this timeless FPS on Xbox consoles. The game will arrive on Game Pass, as well as a download for anyone who owns a copy of the 2015 compilation Rare Replay.

No specific release date have been declared, only that the game is “Coming Soon.”

Were you expecting GoldenEye 007 to arrive on the Nintendo Switch? Did you believe it would come at all? What is your favorite first-person shooter? Sound off in the comments below, and on our Facebook and Discord pages!
