It’s been nearly a year since the last fighter was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the form of Kingdom Hearts’ Sora. The hype and speculation of who would be added next was such an exciting game in and of itself, and the fact that we’ve been without it for a year is really driving the point that we truly are done getting new content to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It’s unknown if we’ll get a new entry in the franchise. No plans are announced as of now, and Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Smash Bros. series, has said there are no plans for a sequel to Ultimate, and that fans shouldn’t be expecting one.
But we can still dream, can’t we? Who would you want to see in a future Smash Bros. game?
One I can think of immediately is Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia. Lloyd has been a top contender as a Smash Fighter according to fans, and has even appeared as a Mii Fighter costume for the game. With Tales of Symphonia Remastered announced in last month’s Nintendo Direct, it’s optimistic that Nintendo is hoping to connect further with the Tales franchise. Plus, unlike the other “anime sword guys,” Lloyd uses TWO swords. It’s different.

Speaking of Tails, how did we never get another Sonic character? Sonic’s addition to Super Smash Bros. Brawl was a huge deal at the time, and with the Hedgehog’s franchise being massively successful (plus the new movies), you would think Nintendo would try to get Tails, Knuckles, or Shadow added in there.

Now, my PERSONAL pick is a bit out of left field, but I’d love to see a Digimon rep in the form of Agumon. Agumon is the Pikachu of Digimon, appearing in multiple tv series and games, including the recent Digimon Survive. Agumon can “digivolve” to stronger forms like Greymon, MetalGreymon, and WarGreymon, which sounds exactly like what you would expect for a Smash Bros. mechanic to make a Fighter feel unique.

Maybe we’ll get a new Smash Bros. game. I hope we will, and if we do, I’d love to see some of these fighters. Who would you want to see join the ranks in a future game? Let us know in a comment below, or hop over to the Boss Rush Discord and join the conversation.
