Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer stated during an earnings call with investors that executives at the film studio have been “fielding proposals” for a major video game based on the John Wick franchise of movies.
Feltheimer did not go into much detail, but did admit that “[the executives and I] believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of John Wick. We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything about that at this time.”
This would not be the first foray into video games for the action movie franchise; John Wick Hex released for Windows PC and macOS in 2019 before making the jump to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in 2020. Serving as a prequel to the film series, John Wick Hex was an indie game developed by Bithell Games and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment. These new comments made by Feltheimer suggests that Lionsgate is wanting to aim for something on a much grander scale, such as licensed games Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man, or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Beginning in 2014, the film series stars Keanu Reeves as the titular John Wick: a retired hitman who is forced back into action after thugs break into his home and kill his puppy, Daisy. Since the first movie, there have been two more released in 2017 and 2019 respectively, with a fourth movie slated for release on March 24, 2023, and fifth currently in development. A spin-off titled Ballerina is also in development, with Ana de Armas as the lead.
