CD Projekt Red has announced that the long awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be here December 14. This update is free for all gamers who already own the game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been one of the most requested next-gen update by fans since the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Although the 2015 action RPG still looks great today, bringing the game to modern devices will certainly make the graphics that much better, and performance even smoother.
This free next-gen update comes after many other previous generation games have been re-released on modern consoles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man, Death Stranding, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and CD Projekt Red’s own Cyberpunk 2077. Some upgrades have been free of charge for those that own the games on Xbox One or PS4, while others have required player’s to purchase the update at a small cost.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in particular has won an astonishing amount of awards, and is largely considered to be one of the best games released in the past decade, if not all time. It is the third title in CD Projekt Red’s Witcher franchise of games, which began in 2007. The games are a continuation of the Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, though the games are not canon to the book series. The Witcher follows monster slayer Geralt of Rivia through his travels of killing beasts, solving mysteries, begrudgingly dealing with kingdom politics, and bedding the many women of this dark fantasy world.
The books and the games are the inspiration of Netflix’s own The Witcher tv series, which debuted in 2019; a prequel series titled Blood Origin is set to debut on December 25, and will star Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain.
In addition, a remake of the very first Witcher game was recently announced, with developer Fool’s Theory heading the project. No release date for this remake is currently set.
