Boss Rush Banter: What In Gaming Are You Most Excited For In 2023?

2023 is almost here, and it’s going to be a big year for video games. There’s lots of huge announced titles, undoubtedly some unannounced surprises, and the summer is set to bring back the biggest event in gaming. How can you not be hype for 2023? With all of these games, movie and TV adaptations, and events coming, what are you most excited about for next year?

Since gaming is all about, well, the games, it’s likely that most people have a title they’re highly anticipating. At the 2022 Game Awards, the Most Anticipated Game award went to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The other nominees are also notable games, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4, and Starfield. But even these aren’t all the big ones coming. Maybe like me, you’re a fan of fighting games and you’re excited for Street Fighter VI. There’s plenty of other notable games set for release next year such as Forspoken, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Island 2, Fire Emblem Engage, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Pikmin 4, and Diablo IV. Honestly, there’s so many more; the list just keeps on going.

After a lot of delays, at least partly due to COVID over the last few years, it would seem that a huge slew of games are going to be releasing in 2023. While it is, of course, possible that some of the aforementioned games get delayed, it’s also likely there are a few games we aren’t even aware of yet, not to mention plenty of awesome indie games. Maybe there’s a game you know of that’s flying under the radar right now, or maybe you’re hoping your favorite series gets a sequel in 2023 that hasn’t been announced just yet. Or perhaps you’re hoping a game that doesn’t have a release window yet, like Hollow Knight: Silksong, gets to see the light of day in 2023.

Maybe you’re looking for some new hardware in 2023. While there’s no official announcements, many people are expecting, or hoping for, Nintendo to release a new Switch or successor to the Switch. There’s also been rumors of a cheaper PS5, in the form of a slim edition. Maybe the thing you’re most looking forward to is the possibility of acquiring a new gaming system such as one of these.

Putting aside actual games and hardware, the summer of 2023 promises the return of E3. After a notable absence in 2022, and an online-only E3 in 2021, the conference is set to come back in person next June. Many gaming fans are understandably excited for this centralized event to return. While it’s farther off, and perhaps less exciting, The Game Awards in 2022 proved that the event continues to improve in quality. There’s also the first animated Mario adaptation coming in April thanks to Nintendo and Illumination teaming up for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. And of course Nintendo and Universal Studios are opening a theme park, Super Nintendo World, in Hollywood in February 2023.

Just putting together this article made me even more excited about all that 2023 has in store. For me personally, as a huge Pikmin and Zelda fan, it’s a toss up between Pikmin 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. What about you? 1. Can’t wait for TotK! I think it’s going to be the best Zelda ever. Nintendo always delivers when it comes to Zelda games.
