The Pokémon franchise has hit the milestone of over 1,000 different species and The Pokémon Company recently took time to commemorate that landmark.
The Pokémon Company released an almost 9 minute video showcasing the 1,008 different species available to players over the 27 years of existence. Additionally, the company provided a tease for an update to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming at the end of February.
The franchise hit the 1,000-creature threshold with the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet last November.
The update, according to The Pokémon Company, will introduce Ver. 1.2.0 to both Scarlet and Violet, bringing “bug fixes and added functionality” to the games. The Pokémon Company stated it has plans to release more details as the update launch nears.
This update is slated to come out more than three months after the initial debut of the games, which featured a host of graphical issues. This led to Nintendo granting refunds on the games for frustrated players.
There are many players that still enjoyed the games despite their digital shortcomings.
Gholdengo, a steel/ghost Pokémon, is the 1,000th entry in the list of creatures and is a newcomer in Scarlet and Violet.
Players can get Gholdengo by collecting 999 Gimmighoul coins throughout their journey in the Paldea region. This will allow Gimmighoul to evolve into Gholdengo, giving players the landmark achievement.

While Gholdengo is the 1,000th entry in the Pokédex, Miraidon is No. 1,008 in the franchise. This Pokémon is on the cover of Violet and is an electric/dragon type.
This celebration of 1,000 different species helps cap off a busy year for The Pokémon Company in 2022 as well as kick-off its run in 2023.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet released on Nov. 18, 2022 on the Nintendo Switch and is part of the ninth generation in the long-running franchise.
Pokémon initially debuted in 1996 in Japan with Red and Green versions, featuring 151 species. Pokémon Red and Blue debuted in North America in 1998 and in Europe in 1999.
The Pokémon franchise recently earned the distinction of the highest grossing media franchise, pulling in about $100 billion since 1996.
