Nintendo finally pulled the trigger.

The company announced the addition of  Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games to its Nintendo Switch Online services as part of its recent Nintendo Direct.

The reveal wasn’t much of a surprise to fans as the addition had been a rumor for quite some time. Still, the reveal was exciting and provided long-time gamers a chance to return to the handheld classics.

The announcement came with a nice little list of games for both consoles with a tease of more to come. The list included classics from various franchises including The Legend of Zelda, Mario, Kirby, and Wario. 

I believe this was a good list, but being satisfied is not what we do around here. We banter so let’s get to it.

Both consoles have extensive libraries and these lists only cover a fraction of what appeared on the handhelds.So, which titles are you hoping will appear on Nintendo Switch Online?

I think the biggest snub, for now, is the Pokémon franchise. Yes, Nintendo revealed the Pokémon Trading Card Game is coming, but we all know what I mean.

The original generation of games were iconic and made many fall in love with Pokémon. Then, the franchise topped what it did with the second generation of Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions.

We can’t forget the GBA titles as Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald all were magnificent in their own rights. Don’t forget about the remakes FireRed and LeafGreen on the GBA.

I’m sure we’ll see them eventually, but waiting is always difficult.

There are several other games that would be fun to see on the Game Boy side such as Shantae, Lufia: The Legend Returns, Kid Icarus: Of Myth and Monsters, and any of the Game Boy Mega Man games.

The Game Boy Advance is a fun one to revisit given how many great games there were to play. The console hosted numerous ports that would make fun additions to the expansion pass.

The Castlevania series saw quite a few titles on the system, including Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Aria of Sorrow. Any would make a fine addition.

There were some franchises that had some titles revealed, such as Fire Emblem and Golden Sun, but didn’t have others such as Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Golden Sun: The Lost Ages. 

Other fun games that could make a return include any other Super Mario Advance games, Metroid: Zero Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and the ever-elusive Mother 3. 

Regardless of what comes in the future, the ability to play Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games is so exciting. It further elevates the Nintendo Switch Online services and brings more retro titles to the forefront.
