Once upon a time, people flocked to the movie theater to watch films on the big screen.
Unfortunately, those times are fading, leaving us with the memory of younger days.
I recognize not everyone enjoyed going to the movies, but there were many of us who did because of the experience of watching a film on the big screen. It was also a lot of fun being around fans as we all crammed into a theater to watch a shared interest.
The big screen experience, in my opinion, was unmatched. It just wasn’t the same watching a movie at home. Sure, it might be more comfortable, but you didn’t have the large screen, the booming sound system, or the play-like experience only a theater could offer.
These films were meant for the big screen and I stand by this being the best way to experience them.
So, what movie made you fall in love with the cinematic experience?
For me, it was the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I can’t pick one because I fell in love with movies thanks to all three. Each one holds a special place in my heart thanks to the care and production put into each one.
I enjoyed going to the movies prior to these and Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace did help me get to a love of movies, but it was The Lord of the Rings that solidified it.
I remember being in awe at how each movie played out on the screen. I was engrossed in each film and the world they inhabited.
The scenes hit harder in theaters. I will never forget how enthralled I was in the scene where Gandalf fights the Balrog or seeing the Battle of Helm’s Deep. The scene in Return of the King where Aragorn and all of Gondor bow to the Hobbits was so powerful.
I chalk all this up to the cinematic experience. This was art on the screen and deserved a grand stage, one only a movie theater could provide.
There are many other answers I’ve heard over the years.
I’ve heard many older than me cite the original Star Wars as that moment while others lean to the giants of the ‘90s like Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump, or Titanic. Each one has a very personal answer.
