For six long years, Zelda fas have theorized what we could see in ‘the sequel to Breath of the Wild’. We eagerly picked apart trailers as they dropped, but Nintendo has done a great job–too great of a job–keeping any new information to themselves. However, Eiji Aonuma played approximately ten minutes of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Tuesday, March 28th, to show off some gameplay. While we learned a lot of new mechanics, there were also some other details that surfaced, one of which is something many fans have predicted.
During the portion where Aonuma battled new enemies called Constructs, they dropped peculiar items once defeated. When you hone in on the description, we see “Zonai Charge”. This all but confirms the Zonai presence in the Tears of the Kingdom. It is also important to note that these Constructs are powered by this swirling green energy that has been present in other forms in the trailers.

While we are still missing context behind the Zonai–friend, foe, or both–we now have confirmation they are a vital part of the game.

As a quick refresher, the Zonai were referenced in the Faron region within the Breath of the Wild world with their intricate stone carvings. The Zonai people didn’t exist during the game, which means they were likely an extinct tribe. However, there was minimal information about this tribe.
