Disney+, Hulu Will Combine Into One App Later This Year

Disney has taken another step toward integrating two streaming services.

Hulu and Disney+ will be merged into a single app, as Disney CEO Bob Iger recently announced during an earnings call.

While we continue to offer Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ as standalone options, this is a logical progression of our DTC offerings that will provide greater opportunities for advertisers, while giving bundle subscribers access to more robust and streamlined content, resulting in greater audience engagement and ultimately leading to a more unified streaming experience.

Despite the merger, Disney+ and Hulu will remain as distinct services. This is a huge step forward for Disney, which previously combined Disney+ with Hulu in 2019 and is now working toward full integration of the two streaming services

The combined app will be available in the United States, and Disney will provide further information at a later date. The new app will be available before the end of the year. However, this option will be offered exclusively to consumers who have subscribed to both services. Iger also stated that the company intends to raise the price of its ad-free subscription plan, which is presently $10.99 monthly.

Disney reported earnings for the fiscal second quarter. Revenue was $21.82 billion, increasing 13% from the same time last year and above expectations. It claimed that its streaming losses had shrunk year over year, despite losing consumers in the most recent quarter.
