Sabotage Studio, the developers of the award-winning The Messenger, release their next game on August 29. Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the golden age of ’90s RPG classics. It simultaneously launches on Xbox, Game Pass, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation consoles.
The soundtrack is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer behind classic games like Chrono Trigger, in tandem with Eric W. Brown.
What is the story about?
Sea of Stars tells the story of two Children of the Solstice, following youths Valere and Zale as they face their fated duty to become Solstice Warriors. They wield the lone force capable of defeating the monstrous creations of an evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer. Valere and Zale’s grand journey follows their mastery of Sun and Moon powers as they learn to combine their strengths to cast powerful Eclipse Magic.
Sabotage Studio
Sea of Stars features active turn-based combat akin to Paper Mario, with attacks and blocks proving more effective when you press the right button at the right time. The game is designed to be immersive, with no random encounters, no loading screens to transition to separate battlefields, or grinding. On that note, the game promises to allow seamless traversal, offering swimming, climbing, vaulting, and jumping rather than locking the player character to the ground.
The developers promise dozens of original characters and memorable narratives, as well as a lived-in, tactile world. “Sailing, cooking, fishing, stopping by a tavern to listen to a song, or playing the beloved tabletop game known as “Wheels” … every system has been designed to deliver a journey that pays tribute to retro classics, while rethinking conventional elements to offer a smooth and refreshingly modernized experience.”
